SoCal H2O Rescue Team & the K9 Lifeguards, San Diego Coast, CA

AMERICA'S FIRST K-9 LIFEGUARD SERVICE!
WE ARE TRAINED PROFESSIONAL LIFEGUARDS WORKING WITH TRAINED K9's, and NOT a "sporting" club. We have years of lifesaving and first responder experience in emergency lifesaving techniques and recovery missions. We are not "dog trainers" calling ourselves lifeguards; we are lifeguards that volunteer to work with dogs than can, and do, keep our public safer in, and around, the water. We are NOT dog trainers for hire, but have several references if you are interested in training your own dog for a water sport title.
Niki Burgan, an American Red Cross certified Lifeguard, saw that state and local budget cuts were directly compromising public safety on the beaches and in the water. So, she started a volunteer outreach program that highlights aquatic safety. SoCal H20 Rescue Team is comprised of certified lifeguards from various local agencies, and search and rescue dogs that assist in water rescues, vessel assists, bluff-collapse searches and recovery missions. The team also educates the public through school programs, beach demonstrations and public appearances. Now aided with 2 vessels for ocean search & rescue, and an Albatross plane and volunteer pilots Alan Chatfield and Dave Cummings, the team works cooperatively with local lifeguard and law enforcement agencies to keep our public safe in and around the water!

Dec. 23, 2010--Encinitas ,CA bluff collapse search area. This was reported at 7am during a joggers morning run. Thankfully, no humans were located in the search through the rubble pile, and the area was cordoned off. It remains unstable.

Rummy and Torrey.

Head Lifeguards Niki and Rummy, heading out into a rip current to rescue a body boarder without fins.

Jan-March 2011--Our latest search area, the collapsed bluff off Cerezo and the 101. The area still attracts vagrants, homeless and children, so this area is searched by our K9 Lifeguards 2-3 times weekly for signs of human trespassing and continued erosion.
